July 2024                                        Issue 209

The Guys from the City (Public Works Dept)

built a frame on the wall and came to get the Mandala...

Installed on July 11th...

A very exciting event!

In total, 46 Community Members

participated in the construction of

...not even counting the pack of capricious Pre-Schoolers

who gleefully washed rocks!

Youngest Community Member: Two years old!

oh yes, and

When the one kid figured out that he could use a stick to stir the rocks

all the other kids wanted to stir rocks

 with that stick!

so it was like Tom Sawyer white-washing the fence!

many Rocks got a thorough washing that day!

The Dollmaker shakes her head, saying:

This whole project has been so much fun!

Community Members Rock!!

here's

Judy Inman

from start to finish!

~creating her Floral Design

~holding her finished Frame Square

~and proudly pointing to where it's located in the Final Installation!

 Way to go, Judy!

Bernadette Noll

who skillfully runs that whole Imaginarium where the Mandala was built..

worked on this double panel in the northeast quadrant.

The Dollmaker looks forward to future creative endeavors with this lady.

and how about that guy

Gene!

 LOL! ..who one day

wandered into the Maker Space

unsuspecting...

Once he found out about

the Mandala project

he showed up to help

 every Thursday and Friday

for two months

with unbounded enthusiasm!

Here he points to all (most of)

the areas he worked on!

Just a glimmer of an idea in March-

the 4'x4' Mandala

was installed on an auspicious day in

to the left of the front door at the

Mary Nichols Art Center

on Loop 230 and Burleson Street

City of Mosaics

(yes! There are actually Mosaics on walls all over town!)

The next one will be a spiral!

a Blast from the Dollmaker's Past:

Dave Sheppard's "Found Object" Mosaic

Now here's a Timely Shout Out

to the man who inspired the Dollmaker

many years ago with

his "Found Object" Mosaic

Art Installation!

a wondrous assortment of recycled objects

on the side of his own home.

Renaissance Man..

Dave Sheppard.

What a guy. He is sorely missed.

The Study of Wings continues...

wings for

 the Post-Mandala Period

So what Else is going on at the Maker Space

now that the Dollmaker has gotten back into

 Dollmaking..

strangely enough...

 Dollmaking

IS what's going on over there now!

The Dollmaker brought some of her "different" dolls in

for "Show and Tell- mostly Show"

Some of them involved Corks.

Shortly afterward, Corks went Viral in the Maker Space! LOL

"Wrapped" Styles rampaged through the Space as well-

And a make-shift marionette instigated the need for moveable arms and legs...

It became a wondrous Dollmaking Free-for-All.

The Dollmaker is not even particularly "Teaching"... not really...

She's just hanging out making dolls.

Just getting ready for her 8-week Show -

which will be upon us before you know it!

Meanwhile, may the Summer Continue...

The Rains have been Amazing! Keeping temperatures down like

no July we have ever known!

Enjoy it, wherever you are!
