ON PIRATE WEEKEND!
In the Wee Peeple Doll Shoppe
Kids were allowed to choose one item of Pirate Booty from the Secret Treasure Chest
(where the Dollmaker was waiting behind the counter with her camera!)
AARGH! Pirates! Emboldened by having a Weekend named after them,
"the Great Mischief and Danger which threatens Kingdoms and Commonwealths"
came in droves- fashion-forward in eye-patches and earrings, striped shirts and bandanas,
in tailored coats with cuffs and ruffled sleeves, tri-corner hats, peg-legs, and plumes,
nonchalantly dragging an arsenal of swords, cutlasses, rapiers, scabbards, daggers,
black powder muzzle-loading blunderbusses, long-barreled flintlock pistols, and of course, axes.
A more colorful assortment of Pirates has not been sighted in 200 years on the Spanish Main!

Contributing to Humanity
Contributing to humanity is not about being the best.
It is about being good, about valuing and honoring all those things that we hold dear on this good earth.
Contributing to humanity is about comprehending the power of kindness and the strength of compassion.
It is about caring for the uncaring and loving the unlovable.
It is learning that forgiveness is a gift that we give ourselves and that true love is unconditional.
It is about balancing the virtues that you have on the inside with what you display on the outside.
Contributing to humanity in the context of forever is about
finding a way to bloom as a rose among the thorns.

And congratulations on your incredible new figure! You look terrific!
by Rob Bresney
On many of the mornings when I wake up in my soft bed, surrounded by
the perks of my temperature-controlled home and ready to enjoy another
mysteriously interesting day,
I am visited by the urge to murmur a prayer of gratitude like
"Thank you a billion and one times, Whoever or Whatever
You are that gave me this lavish riot of beauty."
I am flooded with ecstatic appreciation...
But what brings me even sharper pangs of personal elation, what evokes
an even more exuberant longing to celebrate, are those moments when I
deeply feel the successes that are unfolding for human beings far away from me -
- successes like the irrevocable decline of global poverty and child mortality.
And I know many people who nurture a similar aim. Our numbers are growing.
Before now, there has never before been a time
when so many people have actively cultivated a capacity for transcendental empathy.
Before now, there has never before been a time when millions and millions of us
have taken concrete action to improve the well-being of those we've never met.
We are currently living in the most compassionate moment in the history of civilization.
In recent decades {this movement} has grown exponentially, becoming a global crusade
to improve social justice, economic conditions, human rights, and environmental health.
We take it for granted, but it is a surprising and unprecedented development.
By Hawken's estimates, there are well over a million organizations
engaged in the effort, which thrives without centralized leadership,
charismatic front men, or a fixed ideology.
